Planning is underway for middle and high school hybrid learning. The state’s guidelines recommend starting hybrid learning for middle schools once positive cases are below 350 per 100,000. High school students would begin hybrid schedules when cases drop below 200 per 100,000.

The local rate for the week of Jan. 25 is 401.23 cases per 100,000.

The plans for hybrid learning at middle and high schools were presented to the board of directors at a Jan. 26 workshop. Parents/students have a choice of hybrid (two days per week in person and three days remote) or remaining in full remote. An option to transfer to Vancouver Virtual Learning Academy also is available.

Key components of the hybrid plans include:

  • Sixth graders start one week prior to grades 7 and 8
  • Ninth graders start one week prior to grades 10-12
  • Safety protocols include control of movement in classrooms, commons, hallways
  • Training and technology support will continue for teachers
  • Training for students and staff will cover health and safety protocols

More information will be provided to parents by middle and high schools. A survey will be sent to parents of students in grades 6-8 on Feb. 2. It will close on Feb. 7. The survey will be emailed to the primary contact for each middle school family from vpssurveys@qemailserver.com. If you are the primary contact for your family and you do not receive the survey, please check your spam folder or contact surveys@vansd.org.

Contingent on new cases in Clark County being below 350 per 100K for 14 days, sixth graders could start as early as Feb. 16, with grades 7-8 starting Feb. 22.
