Dear VPS community,

I want to thank you for your partnership—and patience—as we navigate the world of remote education. A lot of behind-the-scenes effort has gone into this transition, and I am so proud of our employees, families and students.

Our community partners and employees have worked tirelessly to provide food, basic necessities, child care, technology, instruction, learning support, nursing, counseling and problem solving assistance. I am incredibly grateful for our parents and families for their partnership in meeting the educational needs of our children and youth. You can see the magnitude of the work that has been accomplished over the past three weeks.

I especially want to recognize the essential partnership of the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools, which held its annual spring fundraising luncheon as a virtual event due to social distancing guidelines. Despite this unexpected change of plans, the fundraising total for the luncheon topped $250,000, which included a special gift of $80,000 from LSW Architects and Slumberkins. This amazing show of support is testament to the generosity of our community, and the resources that are needed now, more than ever, as families struggle with the effects of the Covid-19 public health and economic crisis.

The closure of school facilities has caused significant challenges. Many VPS employees are parents also. We know this is not easy, and we understand that it can be stressful. However, our teachers and staff are here to help, and our students will continue to learn, succeed and thrive. Education might look different for a while, but we will do our best to engage students in their learning and provide opportunities for success.

I applaud the tenacity I’ve seen over the past three weeks as we tackle these challenges. Please know that we are here to support you and together we will get through this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Steve Webb, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Steve Webb,

Atentamente,

Steve Webb, Ed.D.
Superintendente
