Four Vancouver Public Schools students earned top honors and prizes in the inaugural Stormwater Partners Student Video Contest. The contest encouraged students to think about local streams and create short videos demonstrating their connections to water or promoting clean water actions.

  • Gaiser Middle School student Melia Ballantyne won first place in the Clean Water Actions long video category for “The Problem and Solution of Cars .”
  • Maia Rodriguez and Olivia Frizzell from Vancouver iTech Preparatory won first place in the Clean Water Actions short video category and an honorable mention in the People’s Choice category for “The Grattix Box .”
  • Autumn Hergert of Gaiser Middle School earned an honorable mention in the Clean Water Actions short video category for “Protect the Water .”

The winning videos will be promoted on social media and shown before movies playing in local parks during summer 2021.

Countywide, nearly 90 middle and high schoolers from 14 schools submitted videos. Most came from Gaiser Middle School, where teacher Karina Tobin used the contest as an assignment to engage students about real-world issues.

Stormwater Partners of Southwest Washington is a coalition of local jurisdictions and organizations including Clark County and the cities of Vancouver, Battle Ground, Camas and Washougal.
